ONICO Warszawa's volleyball players have achieved historic success. For the first time in the history of the Warsaw club, we are proud of the PlusLiga medal and it is immediately a silver medal. It is also the first medal in Warsaw for 23 years when, like ONICO Warszawa, the second place in the league was won by the volleyball section of Legia Warszawa.
This season was a real emotional rollercoaster for the ONICO supporters. During this year we had literally everything: spectacular transfers, personnel problems, bitter defeats and sweet victories, but above all we had amazing fight to the last point. From the beginning of the season, the team had a clear goal: promotion to the play-off phase. After the aforementioned transfers of Bartosz Kurek and Nikolaj Penchev club’s ambitions increased and after 23 years the magic word „medal” has sounded again which in the end turned out to be prophetic. Well played first round made the consequence of the second place which meant the fight in the semi-final with the winner of the pair Jastrzębski Węgiel - Skra Bełchatów. Jastrzębski came out of this duel as a winner and ONICO Warszawa had to deal not only with the south-team, but also with their own squad problems. Just before the game, back injury ruled out Bartosz Kurek, who was about to be replaced by Maciej Muzaj according to the medical transfer rules. However, the transfer after the controversial league officials decision was blocked, and in addition Bartosz Kwolek was also injured in the first semi-final. When everyone wrote ONICO Warszawa for a loss, our players again proved that fighting to the end and character is something that identify them. Winning matches in Jastrzębie and Warsaw meant that we already had what we dreamed about so much: the medal of the Polish Championships. Clashes with ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle was meant to decide whether it would be gold or silver. ONICO Warsaw did not rest on its laurels - the first away match was the concert game of our players, which after the wrong, as it turned out later, the referee's decision ended with the result 3: 2 for the hosts. Subsequent matches in Warsaw and Kędzierzyn were also won by last year's finalists and finally ONICO Warszawa took second place in this season of league games.
It is worth reminding everyone who contributed to this historic success:
